Appearance

Large wolf, mostly grey-brown. Songs-of-Fire has a Y-shaped patch of bright red fur starting behind each ear, and running part of the way down his back. This red marking is visible in all of his forms - even his rarely-assumed homid form has red streaks from the temples running back into his unkempt hair.

History

Songs-of-Fire went through his First Change in northern Minnesota. He usually ran with a pack of wolves, acting as their guardian. He returns to his tribe for moots.

One night, after a successful summer hunt, Songs came across a human cabin. He went to investigate when he heard a strange singing sound coming from the cabin. A young human woman (named Bethany) was living there. Puzzled and intrigued by the melody, Songs observed closer. She had the mark of the wolf on her (a Minnesota Timberwolves shirt). Perhaps there was something different about this human. The next evening, he let her see him while she sang - he could smell her fear, but she kept her song going.. Thereafter, he occasionally came to listen to her songs in the evening, always at a respectful distance, but where she could see him. It was her singing that made him think about what human things might be worth saving.

Then the hunters came. They entered Songs' hunting grounds, used sticks of fire to bring down prey, and started shooting at his pack. When they came upon Bethany's cabin, she fled into the woods. Songs followed them; the first fell to his Hispo form. The hunters tried to use their firesticks, but once Songs entered Crinos form, they fell beneath his claws. He carried the delirium-struck Bethany back to her cabin, and returned to his wolf form, keeping her unaware of his true nature.

When the scent of falling leaves was in the air, Bethany left the cabin (she returned to college). Some time later, other humans with similar scent (her family) came to the cabin. Songs crept forward to listen to their words - Bethany had evidently disappeared from college, and her family was searching for clues.

After volunteering for a personal quest from his tribe to search for anything human-touched worth saving, Songs made contact with some of the Get of Fenris nearby. They taught him a bit of human ways, and identified which of the numerous scabs contained Bethany's school. They opened a moon bridge to a sept nearby, and Songs began his search.
