The spells cast by Magi in Magi-Nation are many and varied. Each region has their own style of spells, but a magi could learn spells from other regions if he or she chose to.
Magi in the Moonlands have a strong aversion to killing. This even extends to evil magi - Core and Shadow magi. Therefore all spells do non-lethal damage by default. This includes both the new Magi-Nation spells described in these sections and spells adapted from other sources. The only exceptions to this rule are spells cast upon summoned creatures (including all Dream Creatures), Constructs (and Undead, if the magi is transported to another world). If a magi wishes to be able to deal lethal damage with spells, they must learn the Lethal Spell feat.
Spells still do potentially lethal damage as a side effect. For instance, a spell which pushes a foe off a cliff doesn't do lethal damage. But the fall can still kill.
In the Moonlands, magi learn spells through instruction. It is the responsibility of the elders to teach their knowledge to any young magi who wishes to learn. Most Magi - even non-elders - usually teach spells willingly, sometimes offering a new spell as a gesture of good will. Formal education does not exist in the Moonlands, though sometimes an elder will teach information to multiple magi at once in something resembling a classroom setting.
All spells have a casting time of one standard action. Most spells only require a somatic component. Any exceptions to these rules will be specifically noted in the spell description. Some spells are Restricted - meaning that only certain types of magi can cast them. See the spell description for specific information.
Core magi may not cast non-core spells. Shadow magi may only cast Core spells, and certain spells from their original region, as noted in the spell description.
When a spell description mentions "your creatures" or "a magi's creatures", it means the creatures that the caster has summoned, created, conjured, or animated. In other settings, it also would refer to animal companions, familiars, special mounts, or any other creature with a magical link to a character.
The Regional spell lists include new spells for each region, as well as those from existing sources which are appropriate for characters in Magi-Nation. Universal spells appear below the lists for each region. Notes:
