Jentoi the Ebon Giant

written and played by Alan Rexroth

Jentoi grew up in the Jungles of Jassiol, in a small village called Kadai. His village was used as the headquarters for a Kelevantian mining company, that tried to mine gems from the nearby hills. The company, Brado's Fine Gems was a rogue company that did not abide by the Kelevantian trade regulations. They used the Jassiol peoples as slaves and treated them poorly. The owner of the company was a Baron that had been exiled from Kelevantia due to his brutality. It is rumored that he was ties to the Ossavian underground.

At a young age, Jentoi was taken as a houseboy by one of the Kelevantian merchants. In return for the boys labor (cleaning, and acting as a subservient) the merchant gave him some education to "civilize the savage". As Jentoi grew up his keen intelligence show early. Due to Jentoi's hard work and honesty, it wasn't long until his master (Galat) taught him to read and write so that he could help with the book keeping. This he loved. He loved the feel of a good book. When he wasn't keeping the books, or doing other menial tasks, he would bury his face in a book. He loved the way the small neat print could carry him into another world. He was very happy.

But, as he continued to grow, it soon became apparent that he would be a VERY large man. As he rapidly grew, his rapid change outraced his dexterity and he became to clumsy to keep around the house. He was sent to the mines to put his size to work. There he labored long and hard as he filled out his vast frame and regained his dexterity. Jentoi though longed for the books that he no longer had time to read. Jentoi hated the treatment he received in the mine. Due to this, he tried several times to run away. Each time he was captured, beaten and returned to work. His spirit refused to be broken though. In his last attempt to escape, his great strength got away from him and he accidentally kill a man. This time they placed him in chains.

Jentoi's break came during an explosion in the mine. Jentoi had been deep in a mine shaft when an unexpected pocket of gas was hit and a tremendous explosion rocked the mine (It is rumor the gnomes actually caused it). During the confusion, Jentoi escaped through a side tunnel and hid out in the jungle. He stole tools to break the chains and headed towards the coast. Once he reached the coast, he found a ship willing to take him to this "Argellium" where books were plentiful, if he worked for his passage.

Jentoi's passage soon turned into a nightmare. It wasn't the hard labor, for he was use to that. It was the unstable platform under his feet. He quickly became extremely sea sick. Despite this he strived his best to perform his tasks well. Just when Jentoi thought it couldn't get any worse a storm struck. During the storm, Jentoi was almost swept overboard. Jentoi never forgot that experience and has developed a very strong fear of the sea. If he never sets foot on a ship again, it will be too soon.

When Jentoi arrived in Argellium, he was amazed. He had never seen anything so lovely. This city had to be as large as the entire jungle! He would love this place. His enthusiasm soon died off though as he quickly realized that he couldn't live for free. The ship's captain, appreciating Jentoi's hard work, helped Jentoi to use his huge size and exotic looks to get hired on with a bodyguard company. They taught him to use that huge club he carried around, and other weapons also. He soon became a highly sought after bodyguard.

He developed a good friendship with a man named Vorr. Vorr helped him establish himself as a bodyguard in Argellium. One particular merchant developed an attachment for Jentoi and often hired him to guard his caravans. He was Lerrem. Between Lerrem and Vorr, Jentoi learned a lot about the country and the people within it.

One day Jentoi's break came. He was hired as a bodyguard by a mage. He was to guard the mage while the mage performed some difficult conjuring. Jentoi performed admirably, and through discussion with the mage, was able to get the mage to agree to train him in return for continuing bodyguard services. Thus Jentoi began to train as a mage with his mentor Marcade One Eye.

Physical description:

Jentoi is 7'1" tall and very well developed. His skin is very dark brown, and he has long black hair that he wears in a pony tail. Due to his almost continual reading (when he can) he has become farsighted, and uses spectacles when he reads now.

When acting as a bodyguard he dressing in two differing manners depending on the temperature. If warm he'll only wear a loin cloth and carry his huge club. He oils down his skin to give it a high gloss. If colder, he'll dress as the jungle prince, wearing a cloak of bright feathers, and carry a large two-handed spear. These exotic looks as well as his large size and well noted abilities got him many well paying jobs.

He has also played upon his "image" in his weapon choices. His "club" is actually a well-balanced bone from a large animal (He claims it is a leg bone from a Steel Dragon). He has modified it by carefully drilling holes in it and filling them with lead and concealing them. He also added a leather wrapping on the "handle" and a thong to attach it to his wrist. He also carries a silver-tipped spear that has intricate carvings on the shaft. The shaft seems to be made of a bone-like material that has yellowed some due to age and wear. His long bow is a horn bow and always carefully oiled. Another weapon he carries at times is a bone axe -another large bone that has been carefully carved into an axe. He has gone through several of these due to ease of breakage.
