Mydra Swarm

This spell summons a swarm of mydras, which last for a few rounds, then disappear. In that round, the mydras will cluster around enemy spellcasters, chattering constantly. They will use attacks of opportunity against the spellcaster if possible, but will not otherwise physically attack. The mydras appear randomly within 20 feet of the target point designated by the caster. The spell summons 1 mydra +1 mydra/2 levels, round up.

The ainjers will immediately move toward the nearest enemy spellcaster(s). This spell gives the mydras an instinctive knowledge of whom their summoner's opponents are. The summoning mage does not have any control over the mydras once summoned.

The selected creatures within the area of effect begin to emit a chilling aura. However, each creature affected by this spell takes an initial 2d6 Cold damage when the spell is cast. This spell may only be cast on willing creatures.

The target creature becomes frightened of other creatures of the same size or than itself whenever it is within 60 feet of them. Once beyond 60 ft., the effect is suppressed, but will resume if the affected creature approaches again. In addition, the affected creature automatically fails any checks to resist intimidation by creatures larger than itself. The creature is not afraid of allied creatures (e.g., other creatures that its magi also controls).

If the caster of this spell is at least 12th level, the creature becomes paranoid of any non-allied creature, no matter what size it is.

A magi who tries to get a paranoid creature to enter combat with a larger creature must make a Control check.

Pillar of Brine

The spellcaster surrounds himself with a pillar of brine. The pillar is just large enough to enclose the magi, and 10 ft. high. The pillar gives the caster DR 5/piercing with 5' reach or piercing missile. The pillar is not mobile, so the caster must remain in place.

The caster may enclose one additional creature within 30 ft. for every 3 levels above 3rd, so he could surround one additional creature at 6th level, two additional creatures at 9th level, to a maximum of 4 additional creatures at 15th level. The spell does not grant the ability to breathe water, so the creatures must be able to breathe water themselves.
