Geography

Theluran is a heavily forested nation on the western coast of Melarna. It is mostly inhabited by elves, with some human settlements along the coast and in specific towns. The elves of Theluran are a little apprehensive of humankind.

History

Before the coming of Ossav, Theluran was a land much like it is now, with huge forests and plentiful wildlife. The elves and humans lived in harmony, working together to bring richness to both land and people, a richness not in wealth, but in culture and arts. Nature was regarded highly, and the land provided for its people.

Ossav's forces came to Theluran in 516. Orcs and ogres came pouring into the forests, trying to claim the land for Ossav. The defenders of the land fought back valiantly, driving back the waves of humanoid invaders. Yet a terrible cost of lives were necessary to defend the land. Even the beasts and the trees themselves helped in defense of the land. Then Lady Khernosa, a wizard of great power in the art, summoned legions of fiery creatures, burning vast areas of the great forests. The elves and men fought valiantly against this onslaught, but several towns were consumed in the fiery blaze. Eventually the fire creatures' attacks ended, foiled by something unknown even to this day.

Khernosa had discovered the location of Shirallin, the capital and heart of Theluran. Using her magical talents, Khernosa entered Shirallin and opened a gate from the lands known to elves as Demonholme - the Abyss. Hordes of demonic creatures swarmed over the fresh prize, slaying every living thing in Shirallin. Khernosa herself was slain by her own demons, but her horrid work broke the heart of the land and will of Theluran's people. When the next Ossavian wave of attackers came, they met with scant resistance. Some of the men and elves set sail westward across the great ocean, hoping to find a new land. Some remained as slaves, and fewer still aided the druids who went into hiding. Elves virtually disappeared from the entire western region of the continent.

Once the lands had been freed again, the druids emerged from their hiding. Much of the land was despoiled, and Shirallin, now called Horath, was still a horrid scar upon the land. Orcs had claimed some areas as their own. As the druids began to reclaim their land, they contacted some of the elven tribes that scattered to Fe'ansia and the N'Tethas islands. Slowly the land was reclaimed, as the elves returned to the area and men and elf worked together once again.

Today, Theluran is still being reclaimed. There are several large humanoid settlements that are very strong, and numerous smaller tribes being hunted down by man and elf. Horath has not been rebuilt, and serves as a visible reminder of evil - nothing lives there now. Orcs have claimed the territory of Krazok in the northeast as their own, and skirmishes continue to this day.

Theluran has a new heart, and is now a much smaller land. No longer as open or as trusting as before, the people of this land are resolved to never lose it again. The faerie realms have reappeared in Theluran; their secrets hidden by the druids. The druids keep their places of power even more a secret than before Ossav.

Culture

Theluran is allied with Fenorri to the east. They conduct some trade with Throndheim, and other nations of western Melarna. Contact with Kelevantia is minor; the Theluran navy is small and usually works well with Kelevantian ships. Anyone from Ossavia is watched - even after Ossav's fall some of the Dukes tried to plunder the land. They are on fairly good terms with Dalyria.

Visitors to Theluran are generally kept in the coastal cities. Humans generally consider Tir Hanoch to be the administrative center of the nation; it is that for those things that humans consider important. The elves consider Wyrthine as the new heart of the land, but also take an active role in the administration, trade, defense and other matters that are necessary. Never again will they lose their land.
