Geography

The Empire of Tah-Nokhet lies to the west of the Alkhaset Desert, which separates Tah-Nokhet from Darbiya. Tah-Nokhet lies on the western coast of Fe'ansia. Tah-Nokhet ranges from the Siyal hills (at the southern end of the Jassiol jungles) to the Sea of Zephiri to the south. Along the coast are fertile lands, though the interior of the country is quite arid.

Most of the people of Tah-Nokhet dwell near the ocean, or along one of the two great rivers. The Mehet to the north flows from the Siyal hills to the ocean, while the Soheb to the south empties into the Sea of Zephiri. Between these two rivers lies the traditional lands of Tah-Nokhet. However, the empire has aggressively expanded its territory over the past century, during the rule of the current dynasty.

History

Peoples

The citizens of Tah-Nokhet are primarily human. The citizens of Tah-Nokhet, who call themselves Nokhech, follow Pharaonic traditions. They have conquered and enslaved a number of smaller nations during their expansion, and slave races vary considerably.

Since the border with Darbiya is poorly defined, the Nokhech and Darbiyans frequently raid each other's lands for goods and slaves. Numerous smaller independent territories - usually little more than independent settlements - also have been the target of Nokhech raids.

Tah-Nokhet is ruled by a Pharaoh, who also serves as the high priest and spokesman for the gods. Other priesthoods wield power, usually absolute within their domain of interest. The children of nobles are inducted into the priesthood as young as possible. Those noble children without the talent for the priesthood are usually given a commission in the military.

The military of Tah-Nokhet is composed of roughly a third Nokhech. The remainder are subjugated peoples, who are either totally enslaved, or serving for the promise of citizenship. Most of the subjugated people have been conditioned or magically compelled to serve the noble officers without question.
